Tommy on May 5, 2021

One of the parents of the abducted students from the Federal College of Forest Mechanization, Afaka, Kaduna state, has said that in an effort to secure the release of her children, she and other parents met with the controversial Islamic scholar Ahmad Gumi, who directed them. to a Fulani man named Ahmed.

The mother, who spoke in an interview with Roots TV, also said that Ahmed was paid N800,000.

Some News had previously reported that on March 11, 2021, 39 students from the school were kidnapped by bandits in the state. Of the 39 students, 10 had been released so far, with 29 remaining.

On Tuesday, the parents protested in the National Assembly, asking the Federal Government to help them secure the release of their children.

Speaking to Roots TV, one of the parents narrated her encounter with Gumi, who has been speaking for the bandits lately.

The mother said: “We keep going to the meetings. They took us to Gumi's house, who said we should meet Ahmed. I forgot the name. He invited a Fulani man, we brought him almost N800,000 but he said the money was only for transportation. Then I started crying and pleaded with him that she was a widow, training my son to become my helper in the future, but he said that was none of his business. "

She said the unidentified Fulani man was invited to an office in Kaduna to meet the parents.

"We kept begging him, but he insisted that we should pay 500 million naira."

Another parent also said: “The trauma is too much, I can hardly sleep. We are walking corpses. People see us as alive but we are already dead. At night you cannot sleep, if you want to sleep you will be thinking about the condition of your child; if the child is dead, alive, eaten.

“They (the kidnappers) wanted the government to pay that money, 500 million naira. Like me in particular, they kept calling me "Ma'am, go and talk to the government to pay the money." All I was telling them was that I am a widow, I do not have access to the government.

“Maybe if my husband were alive, he would know someone who would help him talk to the government. They kept calling me for almost two weeks and I told them the same thing. "

Kaduna state has been abuzz with kidnappers of late, as criminals attack schools.

No fewer than 23 students and a staff member from the University of Greenfield, Kaduna were also abducted from the school on April 20, 2021. A few days later, five of the students were killed by bandits.

Although the bandits have demanded a ransom of N100m, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has kicked against them, while threatening to arrest any parent who pays the ransom to the bandits.
